What made this wine a winner right of the gate was its versatility and mass appeal. What results is a luscious, full-bodied wine with the darkness of a Zinfandel, the spiciness of Merlot and Syrah and wonderful structure of the Cabernet? The fruit is front and center, calling forward dark cherry, plum, and a warm vanilla finish. Apothic Red is made up of Zinfandel, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, some of the most popular wines purchased around the country. Take four grapes with intense flavor, and create something bold and fruity, with a sweet finish that will please anyone’s palette. The more grape varieties you add, the more you can fine-tune the profile of the wine to pick only the best attributes of each grape.Īpothic’s method was a simple and smart one. However, modern winemakers looking for a new world style product will tell you that a red blend is one of the best options for producing a truly customized flavor. Wine connoisseurs with sophisticated palettes tend to overlook red blends, primarily because the mix of four or more grape varieties prevent you from identifying the individual flavors in each varietal. Gallo, immediately won consumers over their singular product, a surprisingly delicious red blend. Apothic, which is made under California wine exporter E.J. Rich, flavorful wine at an accessible price was the goal, and the young brand came out swinging with their signature Apothic Red. In 2010, Apothic Wines entered California’s wine market to make a bold statement. A portion of the Chardonnay and Viognier were fermented in stainless-steel tanks. The Chardonnay underwent partial malolactic fermentation and was fermented on selected oak with sur lie aging, enhancing the wine’s delicate fruit flavors while adding subtle caramel, cream and spice characteristics. The fruit was whole-cluster pressed, then the juice settled and was racked to tank to optimize clarity and mouthfeel. Winemaking Notes: We harvested a majority of the grapes for our Apothic Chardonnay at night in cool temperatures to preserve the character of the fruit. Wines showcase vibrant acidity and concentrated flavors. California’s 2022 growing season was cool and mild, with a heat spell in August that resulted in an earlier than average harvest. With its cool evenings and warm days, Lodi is known as a producer of fragrant, concentrated and silky textured fruit. Viticulture Notes: We selected the majority of the grapes for Apothic Chardonnay from the unique Lodi Delta region in California. This luscious wine offers a silky-smooth texture and a bright, lively finish. Viognier in the blend adds intriguing aromatic floral and tropical fruit characteristics. Our appealing Apothic Chardonnay opens with generous notes of crisp red and green apple, layered with hints of honey, caramel and vanilla. ![]() Select lots of Chardonnay were fermented and aged on oak to add a touch of vanilla before undergoing malolactic fermentation to enhance fruit character. The Pinot Grigio, Viognier and Riesling were fermented 100% in stainless steel tanks to preserve delicate fruit aromas. To retain the natural characteristics of each varietal, we fermented the blend at cool temperatures. Harvest in both viticultural regions produced yields of high-quality grapes with excellent quality. Washington state experienced some prolonged heat spells, which also caused a slight drop in crop size. Mild summer conditions allowed the fruit to take its time ripening and developing optimal flavor concentration. Ongoing drought conditions throughout California caused a slight reduction in crop size in 2021. Layers of green apple, lemon zest and tree-ripened apricot open to a palate layered with notes of white peach and vanilla undertones. Chardonnay leads the blend while Pinot Gris, Riesling and Viognier add fragrant aromas and complexity. The 2021 Apothic White is a vibrant blend of four varietals grown from California and Washington state.
